Randy's Itinerary & Trip Information
On March 20th, I'm heading to Zambia, in southern Africa, for 3 weeks. This website provides information that my family and friends have requested.
I'm on the Board of Trustees for Capital Christian Ministries International, based out of Lusaka, Zambia. CCMI's mission is to pioneer a church in the capital city of every nation in Africa. When each church becomes self-sufficient, their goal is to open an orphanage, to offer resources and relief to the homeless children left behind by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
My position on the CCMI board is Director of Media & Technical, USA. I research & procure anything technical, but primarily production & post production equipment. Since my original involvement in 1999, we have shipped 4 Avid editing systems that are used to produce TV programming and corporate videos. The weekly TV broadcasts have greatly assisted in the growth of the local church, and in turn, the resources available to the orphanage.
My primary goal during this trip is to train the team on the newest Avid system that was shipped over in December 2007, and also to do workflow analysis, and see how we can help them to increase their productivity and efficiency.
I will also have the opportunity to visit 2 of our other churches, spending each Sunday in a different country, including Malawi and South Africa.
Site Notes: Posting daily pictures is dependant on internet access. I specifically avoided the term "broadband" as it is non-existent in most places I will be. I have been told I will have access, but we'll see.
Financial Notes: As of Saturday, March 8th, the current exchange rate is 1 US Dollar = 3,738 Zambian Kwacha.
Communication Notes: My pager will not work while I'm
overseas. My cell phone will work, although the cost is prohibitive. Please
DO NOT call my cell phone and DO NOT leave voice mail messages. I will, however,
be checking e-mail as often as possible. I should also be able to send &
receive text messages.
